The Miracles of the Namiya General Store by Keigo Higashino is a difficult book to pigeon hole.  There is so much packed into this story of redemption and self-discovery.  Three thieves have found a place to lie low in an old general store.  But when letters asking for advice start slipping through the mail slot the young men have no idea how to help the letter's author and this sends them on a journey of discovery themselves.

This Dark Road to Mercy by Wiley Cash is set against the backdrop of the 1998 Major League Baseball homerun record chase.  Easter and Ruby Quillby are in foster care after their mother died of an overdose.  Their absentee father Wade Chesterfield has just arrived and taken the girls on the run with him.  What he doesn't realize is there is someone on his tail who will stop at nothing to see Wade Chesterfield dead. For fans of southern gothic authors like Daniel Woodrell.

And Now She's Gone by Rachel Howzell Hall introduces investigator Grayson Sykes who has just been given her first case. Isabel Lincoln has disappeared with her boyfriend's Labradoodle and he wants his dog back.  This should be pretty easy but Isabel Lincoln doesn't want to be found, or is she no longer living and someone is sending Grayson on a wild goose chase.

Don't Look Now by Mary Burton is a suspenseful thriller that has homicide detective Jordan Poe in hot pursuit of a killer. His victims look like Jordan's younger sister Avery who has had a substance abuse problem.  When Jordan gets too close to the killer she is hurt but refuses to back off the case until he is brought to justice.
