Dear Santa by Nancy Naigle starts as Christmas shop owner Angela Carson is having to face the reality of closing her beloved store Heart of Christmas.  Her store is being threatened by a discount chain store Christmas Galore and she wants revenge.  Too bad the owner is the man of her dreams.  When her 5-year-old niece Chrissy asks her to write a letter to Santa she plays along.  After all Santa can make Christmas miracles happen, right?

Christmas Picture Books

Dear Santa, I Know It Looks BAD But It Wasn't My Fault by Norma Lewis is a series of letters written to Santa by Scalawag the cat chronicling his misadventures including getting his head stuck in a bottle and setting the house on fire.

The Gingerbread Pirates by Kristin Kladstrup introduces Jim's gingerbread cookie creation Captain Cookie who sets off on an adventure after Jim falls asleep Christmas Eve.  Captain Cookie plans to save his pirate crew from being eaten by this Santa character.

The Day Santa Stopped Believing in Harold by Maureen Fergus turns the tables and imagines what would happen when Santa starts to question if a boy or girl is really real and how Harold has to convince Santa that he is indeed real and that he believes in Santa.

Thin Ice by Paige Shelton is a mystery set in Alaska where Beth Rivers has gone to hide from the man who kidnapped her.  She feels safe in Benedict, Alaska.  Surely she will notice a strange man in this small town, but when she gets caught up in a local murder, she may not have gone far enough.

The Clincher by Lisa Preston is the first in her horseshoer mystery series. Rainey Dale has just started her horse shoeing business in rural Oregon when one of her clients is found dead.  The police know Rainey was the last person to see her and one of Rainey's tools was found by the body.  In order to clear her name Rainey starts investigating on her own.

Recipe for a Perfect Wife by Karma Brown follows Alice and her husband who purchase an old house outside New York City.  Alice becomes fascinated with the former occupant of the house when she finds a cache of old letters.  Told in alternating chapters the reader learns about Alice in 2018 and Nellie in 1955 as both young women navigate the joys and pitfalls of marriage.

The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek by Kim Michele Richardson is about Cussy Mary who is part of the Pack Horse Library in Kentucky.  She is worried about the people on her route who are starving as well as her father a coal miner dying of black lung disease. As one of the blue people she is shunned but she does what she can for those she cares for.
