Proving Ground by Peter Blauner introduces New York City Police Detective Lourdes Robles who has just been given the biggest case of her life.  A well known civil rights lawyer David Dresden has just been murdered in front of his house.  In his current case Dresden is suing the FBI for a client and the list of people who wanted Dresden dead is long.  Will she be able to solve the case or will she lose her job because of it?

Between Earth and Sky by Amanda Skenandoare highlights what happened to Native American children at a fictional Indian School in Wisconsin during the late 1800s.  Alma's father runs the school and when she reads years later that one of her good friends at the school is accused of killing a Federal Agent she knows she must go and help him.

The Perfect Mother by Aimee Molloy follows a group of new mothers who call themselves the May Mothers.  When the infant son of one of the members disappears out of his crib, while they are at a party, the members wonder if they really know each other as well as they thought they did.

Design for Dying by Renee Patrick is a light historical mystery set in Hollywood in the 1930s.  Lillian Frost finds out her former roommate has been murdered wearing a pilfered dress from Paramount Studios.  In the investigation Lillian meets the indomitable Edith Head who runs the wardrobe department at Paramount.
