The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead follows Cora a slave from a Georgia plantation as she and another runaway make their way northward toward freedom. In this book Whitehead envisions the Underground Railroad is a real honest to goodness railroad.  Follow Cora and Caesar as they ride the rails across the hostile country.

You Will Not Have My Hate by Antoine Leiris is a slim volume that chronicles how Leiris dealt with the death of his wife at the hands of terrorists during the Paris concert attack in November of 2015.  He had 17-month-old Melvil to think about and protect. How can he explain to their child that mamma is not coming home?  Beautiful and moving.

A Star for Mrs. Blake by April Smith highlights a little known footnote in our country's history.  Cora Blake gets a letter inviting her to make the trip to France with other gold star mothers who have had sons buried on European soil during the First World War.  This is her chance to see Sammy's final resting place.

City of the Lost by Kelley Armstrong is a unique take on the traditional locked room mystery.  It is set in the town of Rockton in the Canadian wilderness.  Rockton is off the grid and populated by people who need to disappear from society.  Casey Duncan has just become the town's newest resident and police detective.  Her first day she has a missing person and a murder to solve.

A Certain Age by Beatriz Williams is loosely based on the German comic opera Der Rosenkavalier first performed in 1911.  This story is set against the sweeping backdrop of New York City during the height of the Jazz age. Society matron Theresa Marshall has fallen in love with her much younger paramour whom she just may lose to a sweet young thing.  It is difficult being a woman of a Certain Age.
