Ghost Wall by Sarah Moss is a slim volume that packs a huge punch.  Silvie and her family are taking their vacation in Northumberland, England to live like the early Britons of the Iron Age.  All Silvie thinks is it is a lot of foraging for food, that is all she does.  But when the professor and archeology students they have joined up with decide to build a ghost wall things start to go horribly wrong.

Ms Ice Sandwich by Mieko Kawakami is a slim volume translated from Japanese and follows a boy who is fascinated by the woman who works the sandwich counter at the local grocery store.  He dubs her Ms Ice Sandwich thanks to the electric blue eye shadow she wears each day.  His father is dead, his mother is too busy and grandma has had a stroke so cannot communicate.  With whom can he share his obsession and observations?

Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed follows the 26-year-old as she decides to hike the Pacific Crest Trail after losing her mother to cancer.  Having never hiked long distance before Cheryl reads up on the trail and decides to travel from Mojave, California to the Bridges of the Gods across the Columbia River on the Oregon Washington state line.  She learns much about herself and her endurance and meets many interesting people on that 1,000 mile trek.

The Good Detective by John McMahon introduces Police Detective P.T. Marsh who responds to a call of a dead bad guy only to realize it is the man he had an altercation with the previous night.  Did he kill the man, after drinking P.T. can't remember.  Then they find out the dead guy probably set the fire that covered up the burned body of a young black man.  How will they ever solve the murder now?  Written in the vein of Ace Atkins, Greg Iles and James Lee Burk this southern police procedural is a series opener.

The Peculiar Miracles of Antoinette Martin by Stephanie Knipper is the story of two sisters Rose and Lily Martin who run a flower farm in Tennessee.  Rose has asked Lily to return home to help her with her special needs daughter Antoinette.  Rose knows that with her heart condition she needs Lily to take care of Antoinette.  But Antoinette has a special gift and Rose is afraid Lily will run away again if she finds out.  This title will appeal to fans of Sarah Addison Allen's stories full of magical realism.

Under the Cold Bright Lights by Gary Disher is a stand alone police procedural.  Alan Auhl has come out of retirement to work as part of the cold case squad in Melbourne Australia.  His team is given a case involving a young man that has been buried under a concrete slab for 9 years.  It will take a lot of leg work to find leads and Alan has several other cases to wok on as well as some high maintenance tenants living in his house.

The Night Olivia Fell by Christina McDonald starts when Abi receives a phone call telling her that her teenage daughter Olivia fell off a bridge causing a brain injury that has left her permanently and irreversibly brain dead.  She is only on life support because she is pregnant.  Abi wonders what else Olivia wasn't telling her.  Abi vows to track down the person that pushed Olivia, because she can't believe it was an accident, and the police don't seem to care about her daughter.
