Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens is the story of young Kya Clark who has grown up in the North Carolina marshland.  She has been abandoned by her family and everyone in town just refers to her as that marsh girl. When local football star Chase Andrews turns up dead everyone believes the marsh girl is responsible.
