Badlands by C.J. Box is his latest novel featuring sheriff's investigator Cassie Dewell.  Cassie has just taken a position in the booming town of Grimstad, North Dakota where oil fracking is the new way of life.  There have been several horrific murders recently and the sheriff attributes them to the work of gangs competing for drug trade in the area.  His concern is that the gangs are working hand in hand with someone in the sheriff's office.  He has hired Cassie to find out who that someone might be.
