I Am a Man by Joe Starita tells the story of Standing Bear a Ponca chief who along with his tribe is relocated to the warm country in Oklahoma territory in the spring of 1877.  When Standing Bear's son dies his last wish is to be buried in their home along the chalk bluffs of the Niobrara river.  This sets off a high profile legal battle to finally answer the question, are Indians citizens of the country or wards of the government.  A well written thought provoking look at the plight of northeastern Nebraska's Native People.
