Strange Gods by Annamaria Alfieri is set in British East Africa in 1911.  19-year-old Vera McIntosh, daughter of Scottish missionaries feels caught between two worlds, those of the colonists and the natives.  She doesn't fit into either and that feeling intensifies when her uncle Dr. Pennyman is killed by what everyone believes is a jealous tribesman.  Vera is sure the killer is someone else, but who?
