Descent by Tim Johnston, an Iowa City native, has been likened to the next Gone Girl.  Caitlin Courtland disappears while out running while on vacation in the Rocky mountains.  Her younger brother who was injured by the man who took her and the rest of her stunned family try to pick up the pieces.  But how can you go on when your child is out there somewhere waiting for you to rescue her?
