We Begin at the End by Chris Whitaker introduces young protagonist Duchess Day Radley who is just trying to keep her family together.  Tragedy follows the Radley family and soon the man who killer her young aunt in a hit and run accident 30 years ago is released from prison.  A short time after his release Duchess's mother is killed.  The local police chief is certain he knows who killed her but while he is building his case Duchess and her young brother Robin must forge a new life for themselves with a grandfather they have never met.
