Cop Town by Karin Slaughter is a stand alone title that takes a look at the rampant racism and sexism prevalent in cop culture of the 1970s focusing specifically on Atlanta, Georgia.  This book follows rookie officer Kate Murphy and force veteran Maggie Lawson as they attempt to track down a brutal cop killer that is dividing the city along racial lines.

Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell tells the story of two teen misfits who find a safe haven in each other.  Eleanor is overweight and red headed, Park is Korean-American, both feel alone. Yet, thanks to fate and an open bus seat they slowly become friends, then the relationship really blossoms.

Little Wolves by Thomas Maltman is the 2014 All Iowa Reads selection.  This book set in the mid-1980s in rural Minnesota intertwines the lives of many in the small community of Lone Mountain after a local teen goes on a shooting spree killing the sheriff and ultimately himself.

Notorious by Allison Brennan is a suspense thriller introducing main character Maxine Revere who has a talent for solving cold cases.  She returns home to California for a funeral where she ends up tracking down the killer of a high school classmate as well as delving into a recent homicide also located on her former high school campus.  Might these two murders 13 years apart have a connection?

Lord of the Flies by William Golding is a classic tale of survival and the fight for control and order. When a group of boys are stranded on a deserted island in the Pacific how will they create society out of chaos and order out of disorder?  A great discussion title.
