City of Tranquil Light by Bo Caldwell is one of the best books I've read this year.  It is the story of missionary couple Will and Katherine Kiehn who spend over 30 years in China during the early part of the twentieth century.  The story is loosely based on the author's maternal grandparents and it is just a wonderful read.

Bloodman by Robert Pobi is an edge of your seat thriller.  This book is not for the faint of heart, as it follows FBI Special Agent Jake Cole as he tries to solve the murders of women who have been skinned alive. Very dark but a compulsive page turner till the shocking ending.
